contact lenses

Dr. Ni is especially qualified to fit contact lenses. After performing the comprehensive exam, she will take a few additional measurements of your cornea to determine which contact lenses will be the best fit for your eyes and your lifestyle.

Remember, contact lenses are considered a medical device and are therefore still controlled by the FDA. Wearing contact lenses can be dangerous and can result in eye infections and other eye problems and should be checked regularly by an eye doctor. Proper fittings by Dr. Ni, and proper care by you at home, are absolutely critical to maintaining good eye health.

Some of the contact lens options that Dr. Ni may discuss with you are:

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses

RGP lenses are the gold standard of contact lenses. They are semi-hard, extremely oxygen permeable, and provide superior optics. They are especially good at correcting astigmatism.

RGP lenses are also used in treating keratoconus.

Soft Contact Lenses

Soft contacts are thinner and can be prescribed to be replaced daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly. You can also try colored soft contact lenses in blue, green, amethyst, honey and many other exciting colors. Call for details or to set up an appointment to try some on.

Lenses for Astigmatism

Toric lenses are available in either RGP or soft contact lenses. Both materials are better than ever at correcting astigmatism but RGP lenses are usually superior in their optics.

Bifocal Lenses for Presbyopia

Bifocal contacts are also available in both RGP and soft designs and can work very well. Depending on your needs, Dr. Ni will discuss all of your options with you including monovision. Monovision is simply a way to prescribe your contact lenses (RGP or soft) so that one eye will see clearly for distance viewing, and the other eye will see clearly for near vision such as reading. As odd as it may seem at first, it can be very effective for most patients. Both of these options (bifocal contacts or monovision) offer new and exciting opportunities for our patients over 40. Please call to ask Dr. Ni or her staff about any of these options.

Corneal Refractive Therapy Lenses

This is a brand new and exciting technique of fitting contact lenses that you will sleep in overnight. The lens gently reshapes your cornea while you sleep. When you wake up you remove the contact lenses and will have clear vision throughout the day, without contact lenses or glasses. The benefits are similar to LASIK (laser surgery) but with no surgery involved. The contact lenses are extremely oxygen permeable, safe to sleep in, and have been approved by the FDA.
